Is the Competition Tribunal E-Filing available at all times?
- The E-Filing is available at all times; however, technical support and document processing services will be available during the Tribunal’s regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (ET).
Who do I contact to get help?

Can I file confidential information with the E-Filing?
- Yes, the E-Filing is completely secure. The E-Filing uses technology that ensures your communications are safe and protected.
What hardware and software are needed to file documents with the E-Filing?
- A personal computer or tablet running a standard platform such as Windows;
- A PDF – compatible word processor text/spreadsheet program.
- Internet service;
- A web browser such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or Safari;
- A scanner may be necessary to create PDF (Portable Document Format) documents that are not in a Word processing text/spreadsheet format.
- File formats accepted: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx, .xls, .xlsx, .wma, .dcr, .mp3, .zip, .txt, .jpg, .bmp, .png, .wmv, .mp4, m4a
Which browsers are supported by the E-Filing?
- The E-Filing has been tested for optimal use with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.

What is an E-Filing profile?
- An E-Filing profile is a unique set of login credentials that allows you to access the E-Filing.
Why do I need to register for a profile in order to use the Competition Tribunal E-Filing?
- You must register and create a personal E-Filing profile with the E-Filing to retrieve Case documents served to you as well as to be able to submit documents.
- The Tribunal has to verify and register your information before granting you access to its secure website and E-Filing.
- Once the Tribunal has reviewed and approved your registration, you will have full access to the E-Filing and an e-mail confirmation will be sent to you.
What information will I be required to enter when creating my E-Filing profile?
- The following information is required to create and register a personal profile:
- First name (mandatory)
- Last name (mandatory)
- E-mail (mandatory)
- Telephone number (mandatory)
- Language preference
- Law Firm
- Website
- Recovery question
- Recovery answer
- Password
Is my personal information protected?
- Information will be used for the judicial process. You have the right to file a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, if you think your personal information has been handled improperly.
My information has changed, how can it be updated in the E-Filing service?
- Once logged in, you can update and manage your E-Filing profile by clicking the UPDATE your profile button on the E-Filing home page and selecting Option 1 – Modify your profile.
I am leaving my law firm, do I need to update my profile?
- Yes, you update your E-Filing profile.
Can I cancel my E-Filing profile?
- Yes, you can delete your profile entirely by clicking the UPDATE your profile button on the E-Filing home page and selecting Option 2 – Remove your profile.
- This action will remove the information associated with your E-Filing profile from the database.
Why aren’t my e-mail address and password working?
- Your profile may be under review. Once it has been approved, it could be one of the following reasons:
- The e-mail address is incorrect.
- The password is case sensitive.
- Your account is locked (after 10 unsuccessful login attempts).

I have lost or can’t remember my password, what do I do?
- Click on the “Forgot password? Recover” link on the Login page. Follow the instructions to create a new password.
- You may also contact us at filing.depot@ct-tc.gc.ca or telephone us at (613) 941-2440 to obtain a temporary password.
I logged in to the E-Filing earlier today but now I am logged out, why?
- Inactive sessions expire after 30 minutes. You will need to login again.
Can I access the E-Filing with more than one browser at a time?
- No, if you try to log in using another tab in the current internet browser or using another browser while already logged in, a message will be displayed and you will need to end your previous session in order to use another browser.
SUBMITTING A DOCUMENT
Can I submit more than one document at a time?
- Yes, you can submit more than one document at a time. A confirmation page listing the documents you have submitted will be displayed, and a copy of this confirmation will be e-mailed to you.
What file format should I use when transferring files to the Tribunal?
- The Tribunal requests that documents be submitted in PDF (Portable Document Format).
This format was chosen because it allows a document to retain its pagination, formatting and fonts no matter what type of computer is used to view or print the document.
Other acceptable file formats are as follows: .doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx, .xls, .xlsx, .wma, .dcr, .mp3, .zip, .txt, .jpg, .bmp, .png, .wmv, .mp4, .m4a
I selected the wrong document to send to the Tribunal, can it be removed from the list of files?
- Yes. You can remove unwanted documents by deselecting the “Selection” check box located to the right of the file.
Clicking on the “Submit” button takes me back to the E-Filing web page; why?
- Some mandatory information is missing in order for your files to be transferred to the Tribunal, for example:
- o Confirmation that your documents contain public information only or contain public and confidential information;
- o Characters shown in the picture have not been entered prior to clicking on the “Submit” button.
Can I cancel my E-Filing transaction prior to clicking on the “Submit” button?
- Yes. Clicking the “Cancel” button will delete all information previously entered on the E-Filing web page.
Is there a file size limit when submitting documents using E-Filing?
- The size limit is 900 MB. Many factors may have an influence on upload times, such as your Internet connection, the size of the document, the PDF conversion format and the resolution of a scanned document.
When are documents considered to be filed?
- Documents submitted are considered to be received at the Tribunal when a page of acknowledgement of receipt of documents appears on the screen.
- The Tribunal will make the official filing of the document according to the time and date of filing. This confirmation will be sent to you by email.
I made a mistake in my filing; how do I correct it?
- Contact us at filing.depot@ct-tc.gc.ca or phone us at (613) 941-2440 during the Tribunal’s regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (ET).
Are any documents precluded from being filed electronically?
- Yes, physical exhibits and any documents for which the Tribunal may consider that it is justified in the circumstances.
RETRIEVING DOCUMENTS
Can the general public access documents that are available for retrieval?
- No, only users who have an approved registered profile with the Tribunal and have been associated to a specific Case have access to documents available for retrieval.
- Public documents on any file may be requested by members of the public at any time by contacting the Registrar.
- In addition, counsel requiring access to confidential information related to a particular Case must file the appropriate forms with the Tribunal.
Do I need to register a profile to access Case documents that are available for retrieval?
- Yes, a registered and approved profile is mandatory to access Case documents available for retrieval on the E-Filing website.
Can anyone with an approved profile access all documents on all Cases?
- No, only users who have been associated to a specific Case have access to documents related to that particular Case.
How will I know when documents are available for retrieval on the E-Filing website?
- When documents are made available for retrieval, an e-mail notification will be sent immediately to the e-mail address provided on your registered profile.
How do I know which documents have already been retrieved?
- If a document has already been retrieved, the button on the left side of the document name will display “Retrieved” instead of “New”.
I don’t see a “New” or “Retrieved” button on the left side of the document name in the list of documents available for retrieval; why?
- All available Case documents are uploaded to the E-Filing website; however, users who have access to public information only will not be able to retrieve confidential documents.
How long will the documents be available on the E-Filing website?
- By default, all documents are available for 30 days.
Should a document be opened or saved after clicking the “New” button?
- It is recommended that you save all documents you retrieve before viewing them.
- Should you view a document and not save it the first time you open it, you will be able to retrieve it again. Click the “Retrieved” button located on the left side of the document name to open it again.

How does the E-Filing application guarantees the integrity of the data transmitted?
- The E-Filing application uses a layered suite of technologies to ensure your communications with us are safe and protected. Your business and personal information is handled with care while in transit between your computer and our server. We only use industry-standard security techniques such as the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol and encryption.
What is SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)?
- SSL is a cryptographic protocol that provides communication security over the Internet. It uses encryption to ensure that the data being exchanged between two computers cannot be read or changed in any way.
